We the undersigned registered voters hereby petition on the following question: “Are you in favor of the sale of alcoholic beverages in Jessamine County?”
Jessamine County is a split county as it relates to alcohol sales – Nicholasville is “wet” while Wilmore and the unincorporated area of the county are “dry.” This means alcohol sales at stores and restaurants are permitted within the Nicholasville city limits but prohibited elsewhere in the county. This causes residents in certain parts of the county to buy alcohol in other counties, depriving Jessamine County of valuable tax dollars that could be used for local benefit. It also puts those parts of the county at a competitive disadvantage for attracting and maintaining businesses (restaurants, retail, etc.) whose revenues rely, in part, on alcohol sales.
This ballot measure seeks to allow alcohol sales in the unincorporated area of Jessamine County and does not affect Nicholasville’s “wet” status or Wilmore’s “dry” status. If you agree that it’s time to reclaim those lost tax dollars and provide more opportunities for economic growth by allowing alcohol sales in Jessamine County, please sign the petition below!
